Chronic Violent Offenders Lists cover

In 2001, the Department of Justice implemented the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative which represents a nationwide commitment to reduce gun and gang crime in America. Since its inception, PSN has supported several research efforts, innovative strategies, and partnerships across the country. This report provides case study examples of how communities defined chronic offenders. This case study offers best practices that can inform similar efforts within the Smart Policing Community.

A principal aspect of Project Safe Neighborhoods is the focusing of efforts and resources on the most critical aspects of the gun violence problem. One approach to focusing efforts is through the identification of individuals who are the most violent gun offenders and developing strategies in response to these individuals.
