In light of the benefits that a positive school climate can bring, schools nationwide are committed to evaluating and improving school climate. Still, the concept of school climate is prone to uncertainty.

This NIJ report, part of the Comprehensive School Safety Initiative, addresses several key questions for translating school climate research into effective educational practice: How should school climate be defined? How can it best be assessed? And how exactly does a positive school climate lead to beneficial outcomes?
