November 2015 American Society of Criminology Meeting

The Smart Policing Initiative participated in two panels at the 2015 American Society of Criminology meeting November 18-21, 2015 in Washington, D.C. The two panels focused on new findings from SPI and on advances in police-community collaboration.

The first panel, on new findings, featured several sites that have recently completed their evaluation research around Smart Policing, or have made substantial progress in their crime reduction initiatives: Kansas City, MO, focused deterrence approach to violence reduction; Chula Vista, CA, preventing repeat victimization of domestic violence; and Lowell, MA, measuring organizational change.  The panel highlighted the SPI process implemented in each site (crime analysis, strategy development, and implementation), as well as the process and outcome evaluation findings.

The second panel, on advances in police-community collaboration through SPI, took a close look at innovative and potentially far-reaching changes in police operations aimed at improving police-community relationships, and the impact these changes are having on police organizations.
