The National Institute of Justice held a five day training sessions for law enforcement officers to learn about and discuss technology initiatives and issues affecting the law enforcement community September 9-13, 2012. During the five day institute, attendees received and exchanged information about existing and developing technologies, problem-solving relating to technology implementation, and technology lessons learned.
On September 13, 2012, SPI Deputy Project Manager Vivian Chu and SPI SME Charles Stephenson gave a presentation on “Smart Policing and Technology”. The presentation provided a background on Smart Policing and on how various SPI sites are using technology (e.g., intelligence-sharing by the Evans County SPI, predictive policing software by the Los Angeles SPI, or body-worn cameras by the Phoenix SPI). They also shared various SPI results, best practices, and lessons learned.
